Back to Tokyo. No time to relax, visiting many friends, relatives, and places.

1. Atago Jinja near NHK
Atago Jinja is at the highest poin in Tokyo 23 wards, was established by Tokugawa Ieyasu the first Shogun in the Edo period. Because of the heigth of the location, it was also good for NHK broadcasting station, the first radio broadcasting company in Japan.

One of the steepest stairs I've seen. Looking slippery in rain. we opted to take another route down.

2. NHK Museum Pilgrimage (Junrei)
Bruce wanted to learn more about NHK World decisionmaking and to determine if any programs are available on DVD. The museum was not only about the history of broadcasting in Japan but alos history of Japanese culture post WWII. It was interesting. It stirred many recollections for Noriko. I heard about the experience of living in Japan over the span of her early life.

4. Shibuya station in transition
Shibuya station, where many rairoads, subways and bus routes converge, was like a maze. They are trying to make sense of the place by reorganizing. The construction started in 2013 is not expected to be complete until 2027. It is a massive project done in several stages while keeping the flow of people and everything operational. It is called the once in 100 years urban renewal.

5. Calligraphy exhibit
My highschool classmate's mother, who is 99 years old, still teaches calligraphy to hundreds of students. The exhibition of her students works were held in a large hall in Ginza. It was a day after we came back from Tohoku but we had to go see it. Five of my classmates were there, three of them her present and former students. We had lunch together afterwards.

Master's work. I can't read but it is her waka poem about hearing many cranes over the clouds and thinking about her late husband and about days to come. She is celebrating her 'hakuju' at being 99 years old. (Removing one 一 from character hyaku 百, leaves the character haku 白). Cranes are a symbol of longevity along with turtles.

6. Koichi family
My brother Koichi and his family had dinner at a Korean BBQ place near his place. His daughter's family joined us except for her youngest who had soccer practice. After dinner, we went to his place for dessert.
