Gassan is many miles from Haguro. In olden days the Yamabushi would run from one to the the other via mountain trails. We, alas, took a taxi (because bus service was already closed for the season.) "The three mountains represent three sources of energy: Sun, Moon, Stars." The three also have animal kin or protectors: Mt Yudano: crow; Mt. Gassan: hare; Mt. Haguro: horse (There is much more like lore like this.) | |||
