This was Shizuko's first visit to Izumo Taisha. They had to borrow a wheel chair. All Japanese know that November is the "godless month", so called because all the Shinto gods vacate their native locations and head for Izumo. Thus all of Japan is "godless" during the month because the gods are all at Izumo, discussing and partying. We just missed them; they had left the day before we arrived. | |||

Koichi and Shizuko left early for Tokyo because of her foot injury. We went back for a quick visit. We had missed the path leading to the shrine with many souvenior stores and eating places the evening before.
