Dunes     Route 1 sits far back from the sea! Must slog!
9 South Jetty 9.5 Day Use Area 11 Umpqua Beach OHV
The Oregon Dunes are a unique area of windswept sand stretching for fifty-four miles, from Heceta Head north of Florence to Cape Arago just south of Coos Bay. They are the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North America and one of the largest expanses of temperate coastal sand dunes in the world, with some dunes reaching 500 feet (150 m) above sea level. They are the product of millions of years of erosion by wind and rain on the Oregon Coast.

2. 9.5 Day Use Area
This location is mostly left alone by the ATV crowd. We made the long walk from road to sea.

3. 11 Umpqua Beach OHV
This is the most intensely used ATV area. The sound of loud engines competes with the sea.
