1. Sumiyoshi Taisha
Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, located in the south of Osaka city near the Osaka Bay, was said to be established by Empress Jungu in 686 to worship the god of sea and to protect the navigators from the dangers of the sea. There is a record that the envoys to Tang Empire set sail from here. In Heian period, the shrine became known for the waka poetry and the poets who visited the shrine. Today it is very popular with the citizens and hold many events and festivals.
