Botanical garden     Onomea Valley - an overlooked ravine recovered and re-purposed
Descent Flowers Furnishings and art
The beach at the bottom
Official name, "Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden", is the Onomea Valley a few miles north of Hilo
Founded by Dan and Pauline Lutkenhouse in 1978, it was opened to the public in 1984.
The couple spent six years hauling out discarded debris such as junk cars and hewing paths
in the densely vegetated ravine.

1. Descent
A very damp and sheltered ravine, it is perfect for the native tropical flora.
The greatest conservatory is but a feeble replica of this.
