Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada.
We had never heard of it. It was a green splotch on our map some miles off I15 to which we drove to eat lunch, hoping for some relief from the monotony of Great Basin Desert.

It consumed to time to leave I-15 and reach this place. We had low expectations. It proved a little jewel, on which I wish we could have spared more time. We had to skip the famous petroglyphs but we saw photos of them in the excellent little museum. This was the first state park in Nevada.
