"Mexican Hat" Overnight with Navajo Dawn

Noriko announced "I don't want to stay in regular hotels all the time." She also disdains AirBnB. So she found the most unusual accommodations in the whole BnB database.

6. Dawn
Dawn
1129 _20180930_070257_001 Stepping outside at 6 AM, the experience of dawn in the desert was unexpected. The dawn light seemed to emanate 360 degrees around earth's edge, as if we stand on a great disc floating above a light source.
1128 _20180930_070232 The "bathroom". Visiting that in the middle of the night is part of the "hogan" experience. Our landlady warned that rattlesnakes are plentiful so I watched my footing with a keychain flashlight. The door of the outhouse has a missing triagular chunk at its bottom corner, large enough to admit a wide variety of creatures. The gate between hogan and outhouse is tied with an unraveling shred of plastic rope. The landlady had urged, "don't leave the gate open because cows will come in and rub against the cars."

1080 _18Sep30-SW18_0728 Never mind my complaints about the fence and the outhouse. It was memorable.
