| Ojiichan's slides '55-'59. My father was assigned to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) from 1954 to 1958. These slides were taken by him during those years. | |||
|
Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, was a small island nation south of Indai. For us kids, it was like heaven, nature abundant, running around wild half naked, climbing trees, and swimming at pools and beaches.

We went on vacation at Trincomalee, in Northern area of Ceylon. There, Ojiichan and friend caught a moray eel about 6 ft. long. It was a big struggle that took over two hours.

First year back in Japan was quite an adjustment for us kids, not just fitting culturally baut also in school. With lack of three and a half years of formal Japanese education, not being able to read kanji was detrimental.
