Durber Square, at the center of the city, was lively with tourists and residents, especially in the morning when the market was held. All the buildings, both Hindu and Buddhist temples, were centuries old and had elaborate carvings and decorations which the residents took for granted. They were poorly maintained and many of them were destroyed in the 2015 earthquake.
